Purpose:

The intersection of neuroscience, psychology and education.

Educational settings today require teachers and leaders to focus on teaching, leading and learning in a VUCA (Volatile, Unpredictable, Complex and Ambiguous) World. Educators and leaders that understand how and why humans behave can enhance a quality learning environment that caters for the unique needs of students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents and carers in their community.

About the course – 4 days (Module 1 + Module 2):

This is designed to support all Educators and School Leaders and includes:

  • Understanding: How the brain learns and develops
  • Application: Designing effective, engaging learning experiences
  • Generation Alpha: Tailored approaches for current students
  • Research-Based: Grounded in neuroscience, psychology & educational theory
  • Modular Structure: Module 1 (Foundations) + Module 2 (In Practice)

The Salutogenic Schools Alliance Neuroeducation Professional Learning Series draws upon the most current research in neuroscience, models of internal psychology, and educational theory to help educators understand how the brain learns and develops.

About the trainers

Sarah Rudling

Sarah has been a teacher, leader and learner in education for 30+ years with extensive experience as a classroom teacher, Assistant Principal (AP), Highly Accomplished Teacher (HAT) and Principal within the NSW Department of Education. Sarah has a passion for advocating for vulnerable children and believes that all children can be truly known, valued and cared for. Sarah's vision is to make Australia's first holistic Trauma Recovery Centre for children and young people. A place where children and their families can access many anti-wasted healing modalities and practices - learning, teaching and working together as a connected community of caregivers.She delivers content on professional learning in brain development, human behaviour and trauma-aware practice. She has a real gift for speaking to parents of all ages and making complex ideas easy to understand. Sarah is currently also a Consultant for "be the change you want to see" - entitled the Inception of the Salutogenic Schools Alliance, of which she is a Co-Director.

Jodie Paterson

Jodie has over 20 years of leadership experience, including working with the NSW Department of Education in the position of Principal, School Leadership, supporting the initiatives of Primary and Secondary Principals. She has been a principal in two Primary schools in the Mid North Coast of NSW. Jodie works with School Leaders and whole school teams with a vision to support leaders to embed wellbeing, social and emotional learning, and salutogenic approaches, at both the system level and with individual schools, for sustainable school improvement. She delivers professional learning, strategic planning support and coaching that aims to integrate and embed leadership practices that support aspirational, ambitious and high levels of school support.Jodie's expertise in simplifying and streamlining whole school practices supports a relentless focus on achieving outcomes whilst also creating and sustaining whole school culture that is a foundation for the success and wellness of educators, students and the community. Jodie is a Co-Director of the Salutogenic Schools Alliance.

Duncan Davison

Duncan is a senior education leader with in-depth experience developing and implementing educational and sports programs for public and independent schools in Australia and the UK. He has had significant achievements specialising and implementing innovative initiatives and processes to deliver quality educational outcomes and transformative school improvement efforts in his 30+ year career. Duncan has a proven ability to build and lead cross-functional teams and a clear commitment to high performance levels while developing trusting relationships with board and key stakeholders.With a dynamic blend of agility and purpose, Duncan empowers students and educators alike through teaching, training, and curriculum design that elevates social and emotional learning at the heart of education. Grounded in the Salutogenic Schools Alliance philosophy and aligned with current curriculum priorities, his work champions wellbeing, resilience, and the cultivation of key life character competencies that help every learner thrive. Duncan is a Co-Director of the Salutogenic Schools Alliance.
